About The Artist
Darren Jones (b. 1976) is a native of San Francisco. He received his M.M. in
composition from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music where he studied
with David Garner and Dan Becker, and his B.M. from the Conservatory in
classical guitar, studying with David Tanenbaum. Besides his formal
course-work at the San Francisco Conservatory, Mr. Jones has worked with
Michel Merlet in Paris, and with San Francisco Symphony Principal
Percussionist Jack Van Geem, with whom he designed a year-long intensive
study of rhythm and meter.

Recent commissions include
Silence for two soloists, female chorus, and
chamber ensemble commissioned by conductor Jean-Sébastien Vallée,
Homenaje
for solo marimba by marimba virtuoso Brandis Moylan, and Sketches for
timpani and violoncello by San Francisco Symphony Principal Timpanist David
Herbert.
